Interscope BlackBox makes it easy to secure files in Windows. It's a fast, effective method of file encryption and provides a host of features and options. Once the program is installed, several new items appear on the menu when you right-click on any file or folder. Simply choose Encrypt and supply a password to protect your selection. The file is then transformed, using the DES algorithm with a 56-bit key (other options are available as downloadable plug-ins), into a secure file that cannot be read without the password. To restore the original file, just enter the password. Files and folders can be grouped together in a "security set" that allows encrypting or decrypting all the objects in one easy operation. Targets residing on different drives and folders can be combined in the same set. BlackBox also allows you to create self-extracting executable files and to send encrypted files via email in a single operation. Other options include file compression, a secure shredder, an exclusion list, and more.
